Responsibility

I'm not really sure what I would do to try to become more comfortable in another culture... I think the only thing I could do is try to learn the language, if there is a language barrier, and learn the customs of the other cultures. I understand that maybe thats the only possible way to get to understand the students of a different background than my own but until I get to that point I'm not really sure what I could do.

Reaching Out

I would try to have an open relationship with my students so that they know that if they are having any problems, school related or not, that they can come to me. I would also try to keep the extra stuff that parents would normally bring in to a minimum so that the parents that can't afford to but this extra stuff dont have to and I would never have that type of stuff requird. I would also hope that all schools have ESL programs by now but you just never know, so I would try and help the students as much as possible one-on-one and if I couldn't help them then find them a tudor with hopefully no charge to the student's family. I'm really not sure what else I would do at this point.

Student Voice

I think that letting the students have more say in their education is a good idea as long as they as a group agree on the topics and that the school has the last say. There are some cases where the students may want something where the school wants something else but the decision should be made by the school who has the student's best interest at heart while the students just want what they want. I wish when I was in high school we as a student body had more say in how somethings were run in the school. If we were able to choose our classes with a certain teacher in mind I'm sure things might be better or if we were able to have off-campus lunch as a choice instead of the gross food we were served in the cafeteria I'm sure we would be more productive during the school day. But there are many more ways that students should have a say in their education as long as the student's best interest is at heart and things don't go too far.
